About Matthew Solem
Author
My Story
Matthew Joseph Solem is a Christian author committed to giving glory to God, bringing clarity and holiness to the global church, and sharing stories that transform lives. Shaped by childhood car rides where his mother handed him paper and told him to write, Matt discovered his calling to use words for the kingdom of Jesus Christ. His debut book, I AM NOT A GOOD PERSON, chronicles his own salvation and calls readers to the holiness described in 1 Peter 1:16. When he’s not writing, Matt clears Minnesota snow with a 1950s tractor and tends chickens he’s convinced he can understand. His credibility comes not from credentials but from a life of repentance and obedience to God—a daily choice to abide in Christ and let that relationship shape everything he creates.
More About Matt
Matthew Joseph Solem didn’t set out to become an author—he was shaped into one. Long before he understood the weight of words, his mother would hand him a piece of paper during car rides through the Midwest and tell him to write a story. No prompts, no guidelines, just blank space waiting to be filled. Those early scribbles eventually gave birth to “Bigly the Eagle” in third grade, a character whose name still makes Matt smile. But the real story began when he discovered that words could do more than entertain—they could transform. They could point people to Jesus Christ.
Today, Matt writes Christian books with a singular, uncompromising mission: to give glory to God, bring clarity and holiness to the global church, and share stories that spark transformation in readers’ hearts. His work isn’t about building a platform or crafting the perfect prose. It’s about obedience.
But the road hasn’t been easy. Matt has faced the same enemies every writer of faith confronts: sin, evil, and the subtle poison of people-pleasing. There were seasons when the finish line seemed to disappear into fog, when he couldn’t see how his words would ever reach the hands of readers who needed them. Doubt whispered that no one would want to read his work, that he should quit while he was behind.
What kept him going? A life committed to repentance and obedience to God. Matt’s credibility doesn’t come from literary awards or bestseller lists—it comes from a daily choice to abide in Christ, to let the Holy Spirit shape both his life and his words. He writes from the trenches of sanctification, not from a place of arrival. His authenticity is his authority, and his transparency about his own brokenness gives his message power. God changed his life, and now he writes so others might experience that same transformation.
When he’s not writing, you’ll find Matt doing a few things. During Minnesota’s brutal winters, he clears snow using a 1950s tractor. He tends a flock of chickens and has become convinced he can understand what they’re saying.
Matt’s debut Christian book, I AM NOT A GOOD PERSON, tells the story of how God saved him out of a world doomed to destruction. It’s not a sanitized testimony or a tidy conversion narrative—it’s the raw, honest account of a sinner meeting a Savior. The book embodies everything Matt believes about writing: that it should be truthful, that it should point to Christ, and that it should call readers to holiness. As 1 Peter 1:16 commands, “Be holy, for I am holy.” That’s not just a verse Matt quotes—it’s the drumbeat his life and work march to.
Matthew Joseph Solem writes because God changed everything, and silence was never an option. His books are invitations to know God more deeply, to walk in greater holiness, and to experience the transformation that only comes through Jesus Christ. He’s still that kid in the backseat with a piece of paper and a story to tell—except now, he knows exactly why those stories matter. They matter because God matters, and every word is a chance to make Him known.
